PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT

How Oregon PDUs Work

Oregon's Teacher Standards and Practices Commission uses Professional Development Units, or PDUs, to document continuing professional learning for educator licenses that are subject to professional development requirements.

TSPC currently calculates one hour of professional development activity as one PDU. College coursework may also be converted to PDUs under TSPC's published conversion rules.

Oregon's current renewal guidance includes both Preliminary and Professional School Psychologist licenses among personnel-service licenses subject to professional development requirements once reporting resumes.

License Renewal Timing Matters

Oregon's temporary suspension of PDU reporting is based on the expiration date of the current license.

Before July 1, 2029 No PDU reporting currently required
July 1, 2029 or later PDU reporting required
DOCUMENTING PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT

How PDUs Are Reported

For licenses expiring on or after July 1, 2029, TSPC currently identifies several methods for submitting professional development documentation.

PEER Form An Oregon employer may submit a Professional Educator Experience Report verifying professional development.
Official Transcript College or university coursework may be documented through an official transcript when applicable.
PDU Certificate & Log TSPC provides a Professional Development Unit Certificate and Log for reporting qualifying professional development.

Can Oregon School Psychologists Take Online CE Courses?

TSPC describes professional development broadly as learning activities that develop professional skills and may include classes, conferences, and other qualifying professional development activities.

Child & School Psychology CE provides structured, asynchronous professional development courses with certificates of completion. Because Oregon places responsibility on the educator and/or verifying entity for documenting qualifying professional development, school psychologists should confirm that a specific activity satisfies their individual Oregon renewal requirements before relying on it for PDUs.
