SCHOOL PSYCHOLOGIST ENDORSEMENT

How Nebraska Licenses School Psychologists

Nebraska recognizes school psychology as a PK-12 field endorsement on an educator certificate.

The endorsement authorizes professionals to provide school psychological services to students from birth through age 21, as well as services to school personnel, parents, and other professionals related to individual student needs and school program considerations.

Nebraska's school psychologist endorsement requires graduate-level preparation in school psychology, including supervised internship experience.

EQUIVALENT PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT

90 Hours of Professional Development Can Equal 6 Semester Hours

Nebraska defines equivalent professional development as structured professional learning that supports educator practice and improvements in student learning.

15 Contact Hours = 1 semester hour
90 Contact Hours = 6 semester hours
Administrator Verification Required for equivalent professional development

Professional development used through this pathway must have taken place within five years of the renewal application.

A Nebraska school administrator must verify and approve the professional development before it can be used as equivalent professional development.

NASP-APPROVED PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT

Can NASP-Approved Courses Count for Nebraska Renewal?

✓
Our Assessment: Yes — NASP-Approved Online PD May Qualify Through Nebraska's Equivalent PD Pathway

Nebraska specifically states that equivalent professional development may include online professional development that a district administrator can verify.

Child & School Psychology CE courses are structured professional development specifically designed for school psychologists. Because Nebraska permits qualifying online professional development, these courses may be appropriate for the equivalent professional development pathway when a Nebraska school administrator verifies and approves them.

Under Nebraska's conversion formula, 15 contact hours equal one semester hour. Therefore, 90 verified contact hours are equivalent to six semester hours.

NCSP Renewal Requirements Are Separate

Nationally Certified School Psychologists have separate NASP continuing professional development requirements. NASP-approved professional development may therefore serve NCSP renewal while also potentially qualifying as Nebraska equivalent professional development when the state's verification requirements are met.
